Your challenge

As part of a large consortium (Target to B!) you will be studying B cells in several auto-immune diseases and cancer, using various state of the art techniques. Within this project you will analyze patient samples (peripheral blood and tissues) using mass cytometry (CyTOF), allowing the simultaneous analysis of 39 cellular markers. This data will be integrated with paired B cell receptor repertoire profiles (in collaboration with Prof. dr. Niek de Vries, AMC) as well as clinical data. In addition, in vitro assays will be used for mechanistic studies. Experience and affinity with bioinformatics and multicolor flowcytometry is desirable. The project is a joint research program between Dr. Lisa van Baarsen (Amsterdam Rheumatology and immunology Centre (ARC), within the department of Experimental Immunology, AMC) and Prof. Reina Mebius (department of Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology at the VUmc). The project will be performed in the O2 building of the VUmc within the Mebius lab.

As a postdoc your main tasks and responsibilities are:

  • To run and analyze clinical samples using mass cytometry (CyTOF);
  • To perform sequencing analysis;
  • To perform in vitro culture experiments;
  • Bioinformatics and RNAseq analysis;
  • Managing the research project, including maintaining the communication and collaboration with other researchers within the Target to B! consortium.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic researcher with:

  • A PhD degree in the field of immunology and/or –omics technology;
  • Experience with cellular analyses, molecular biology and analysis of large complex datasets;
  • A flexible, pro-active team spirit but you can also work independently;
  • Excellent communications skills in English, both written and verbal.

Your work environment

This post-doc position is part of the Target to B! consortium, which is a national consortium funded by the Top Sector Life Sciences & Health and the Dutch Collaborative Health Funds. The involvement and role of B cells and antibodies in health as well as the development of autoimmunity and cancer will be studied in a disease-overarching approach by several leading groups in the Netherlands. Your research will be in close collaboration with other research groups within the Target-to-B! consortium, and teamwork and strong communication skill are desirable.
